Climate Change
Climate change is here, and it’s past time for a response that recognizes the severity of the situation we face. I stand for an urgent response to the climate emergency, from supporting Indigenous Land Defenders to banning single-use use plastics and investing to create new, clean-energy technologies. As floods and fires threaten homes and livelihoods across Canada and around the globe, I believe Canadians are ready and willing to change – but our leadership is not listening.
Housing
In Peterborough-Kawartha, 32% of residents make less than $20k/year. With rising rents and property values climbing, and a vacancy rate in the single-digits, people in our community are more financially squeezed than ever before. With homelessness and housing-insecurity on the rise, we need a federal government that’s investing in housing in a significant way – and using strategies tailored to fir our community, not a one-size-fits-all approach that leaves many out in the cold.
Healthcare
Dentalcare and Pharmacare are essential to the health and well-being of our community, from struggling families to seniors, every person will benefit. Too many people face the choice between a dentist visit and next month’s rent, while every three minutes in Canada another person enters an emergency room with dental pain. Prescription medicines are an essential part of healthcare, yet they aren’t covered by our healthcare system, leaving many skipping doses or foregoing medicine altogether.
